Quality Patient Care
Accreditation is a uniquely American system for assuring quality in those education programs that produce the next generation
of professionals.
CAAHEP, The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, serves nearly 2200 education programs in 20 health
care professions, through a network of committees on accreditation (CoAs). It is one of the nation's largest accrediting bodies;
altogether, 19,600 education programs in the United States, in all professions, are served by similar accrediting bodies.
Accreditation is a private (non-governmental) system of peer-review based on Standards for educational programs that each and
every program is duty bound to meet. Accreditation serves the public's interest in quality health care, employers' interest in
competent new staff, and students' interest in receiving quality education.
